Update in pictures

Here are some pictures from the past few weeks.
Owen at about 1 week old.

After watching the photographer take photos of Owen, we figured it didn't look too hard and decided to stage our own photo shoot for Easter. It wasn't as easy as it looks.

This is Owen with his first Easter basket.
 "My first Easter."

A friend from church brought us beef stew and a newborn sized loaf of French bread.

Happy Easter!

"After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. 3 His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. 4 The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men.
5 The angel said to the women, 'Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6 He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. 7 Then go quickly and tell his disciples: He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him. Now I have told you.'
8 So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. 9 Suddenly Jesus met them. 'Greetings,' he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him. 10 Then Jesus said to them, 'Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me.'" - Matthew 28:1-10

Easter dinner

Since we now live far away from both my parents and my in-laws, this year I'm in charge of making our Easter dinner. I've been searching the Internet, magazines, and my recipe book for about a week now to compile the perfect set of recipes for the meal. I've tried to find healthy-ish recipes that won't leave us with a ton of leftovers since I'm only serving the two of us. Here is our menu for Easter dinner this year.

- Honey glazed ham
- Roasted garlic red potatoes
- Orange and honey roasted carrots with candied pecans
- Lemon parsley asparagus
- Easy sour cream rolls
- Key lime pie (I was planning on making a coconut cake, but realized too late that it needs to sit in the fridge for a few days to really set up and allow the flavors to soak. Tim then suggested key lime pie, something light and fruity.)

The roasted potatoes are something that my mother-in-law makes. She cuts red potatoes into quarters and then pours melted butter over them and sprinkles on garlic salt with parsley in it. Then she bakes them at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes.
The rolls are a recipe from my aunt Twyla. She mixes Bisquick with sour cream and butter and bakes them. The rest of the recipes that I'm using are from magazines and the Internet.
The recipe for the ham is from Allrecipes.com. It is supposed to taste like a Honey Baked Ham. This is my first time making a ham, so here's hoping it tastes okay. The glaze for this recipe has honey, brown sugar corn syrup, and butter. Not super healthy sounding, but hopefully tasty.
This is a recipe from a website called Tasty Kitchen. The carrots are roasted with honey and orange juice and then topped with candied pecans and fresh herbs like parsley.
This is a recipe from Food Network magazine. The asparagus is topped with chopped parsley, olive oil, lemon juice, and salt and pepper.
The key lime pie recipe comes from Pioneer Woman Cooks blog. She made hers using regular limes, but I am making mine using key lime juice that I found at the grocery store.

The photographer who shot Owen's newborn photos posted a couple to her blog today. Here they are. I can't wait to get the rest of them.

Owen is ready for his close-up

Today we went to have Owen's newborn pictures taken by a local photographer. Owen was amazing! He cried very rarely (and even then, only because he was hungry and once when he was wet) and he was awake and alert for a good part of the time. We were also happy because he didn't use the bathroom on us or any of the photo props when we were having the naked pictures taken of him. Yay Owen! We expect to get some really great pictures. The photographer seemed really happy with the shoot. She said she would have a sneak peek uploaded to her blog in a few days, but then said that there may be something online tonight because she likes to work on photos immediately when she feels she had a good shoot. I'll keep you posted and link to her website when she has them up. In the meantime, take a look at some "behind the scenes" photos from the shoot. We took our camera so we could document the afternoon, but once we got back to the house we found out that something had gone wrong with our camera card and we lost all our pictures. Thankfully, we had just saved all our pictures since Owen's birth on a USB drive. Thank goodness. Anyway, Tim took a few pictures on his cell phone, so you can see a little bit of what we got at the photo shoot.
A little fuzzy, but you get the idea.

Some photos

Tim and I can't believe we've had three full days already with our sweet boy. Here are some highlights from our first few days together.
 Taking a nap with Daddy.
Ready for our first trip outside to take a walk around the neighborhood. Owen slept the whole time in his Snugli. The trees have really been blooming around here lately. I went into the hospital and by the time I was released, it was Spring!
Owen's first bath. Not a big fan of having his body washed, but he LOVES having his hair washed and his head scrubbed with the soft brush from the hospital.
 Ahhh.....
Showing off one of his many Georgia Bulldog ensembles. Even in the midst of all these WSU Cougars. Gooooo Dawgs!
Napping with Mommy while talking on Skype with friends.
The cutest face on the planet.
Exhibit B.

April Fool's!

On Friday, I woke up at 6:45 a.m. to find that my water had broken. Climbing back into bed with Tim after a quick trip to the bathroom, I woke him up and said, "I think my water just broke." He gave me a worried look and said "Seriously?" and then said, "Wait, is this an April Fool's joke?" The funny thing was that I had considered playing an April Fool's joke on Tim dealing with going into labor, but decided against it. Now, I was trying to convince my husband that I was in fact going into labor and that I wasn't playing a joke on him!
We got up and took showers and began to pack any last minute items. Luckily, I've had my hospital bag packed since I was 36 weeks pregnant. We left for the hospital at about 9 a.m. because I wanted to labor as long at home as I could (though not too long because the risk for infection increases once the water has broken.) I labored naturally for about six hours, walking the halls and rocking in a chair and sitting in the delivery room's jacuzzi. The contractions were pretty steady and strong by then. At 3:15 p.m. I had an epidural because I had progressed far enough that it wouldn't drastically slow down labor and because my legs were cramping so much that I could no longer walk around and use gravity to help labor progress. I was given Pitocin at about 8 p.m. to help me reach the point of pushing. I began pushing at 10:15 p.m. with the help of Bonnie the nurse and Tim. The doctor came in about an hour and fifteen minutes later and Owen was born at 11:54 p.m., just six minutes shy of an April 2nd birthday.
Here are some early pictures of our little man.
Owen with my dad, Grandpa Blomquist.
 Owen with my mom, Grams.
Here he is just a hour or so after he was born.
Wearing his going home outfit and ready for his photo shoot for the hospital's newborn website
Waiting to be discharged from the hospital.
Finally arrived at home, alert and happy.

He's here!
