Citrus Lane review (August 24-month-old boy and newborn box)

My August Citrus Lane box for Owen came on Monday and I wanted to share all the great products that came inside. This box was one one of the best I have received this year. Baby brother's box also appeared at our doorstep and I will review his box at the end of the post. This month we received both a box for a 24-month-old toddler boy and a newborn baby boy. The box was Back to School themed with the hopes of helping your children "play to learn."
I opened Owen' s box during naptime because I was hoping to find some items to put aside for after the baby is born so Owen has some new things to play with. I was also able to squirrel away the food item so he wouldn't demand to eat it immediately. So that's why there are no photos of Owen opening his box this month.
Here are the details on what we received in our box for our 27-month-old son (though I aged him down to 24 months this month in hopes of getting toys he could use right away):
  • Barefoot Books Bear On the Go First Puzzles ($12.99): This is a really cute set of four four-piece puzzles featuring Bear from the Bear book series from Barefoot Books. They are a little advanced for Owen at the moment, but I am sure he will master it in the next couple months and it's good for him to have a challenge.
  • Farber Castell Fun Things to Color A to Z ($7.99): I am so excited to have a coloring book for Owen. I am saving this for some after brother is born special mommy and Owen bonding time. Each page features a different drawing of something that begins with that letter of the alphabet. Which is great for Owen because he is all about the alphabet right now and what words start with what letter.
  • Ouchies Jr. Bandages ($5.00): Thankfully Owen doesn't hurt himself too often, and in those cases it's generally a bump or bruise, but having some bandages on hand for that inevitable event is great. These are so cute. Owen has no clue who Paddington Bear is, but he is a pretty cute little teddy bear and I think he will like them for that reason alone.
  • Clean Well All Natural Hand Sanitizing Wipes ($5.50): I love Clean Well products. I have never bought them myself, but I have gotten them a couple times before in my Citrus Lane box. This is a new item though and I figure they will come in handy. I actually got two because one came in the baby's box as well so I might keep one in the car and one in the house. They smell really good too.
  • Annie's Cheddar Bunnies pouch ($1): Owen already loves Annie's Cheddar Bunnies so we're not discovering a new product or anything, but it will be nice to have this pouch to give him sometime when we need a snack on the go.
  • Fab Kids Free Outfit Offer ($39.95): This offer is for a free outfit from the subscription kid's clothes company. To redeem this code you have to sign up for their subscription and agree to be charged each month unless you decide to skip receiving an outfit for that month. You can also cancel if you don't want to remain a subscriber, but I have heard they don't make it easy on you to do this. I haven't decided if I will redeem this or not. I am not generally a fan of "free" offers that require you to sign up for a service, but at least this one features some cute outfits.

My verdict on Owen's box? It was one of my favorite boxes we've received all year. I love getting items that Owen can play with and learn from. Particularly books and puzzles. He still loves to play with the last puzzle they sent. And I was also pleased that we got a full-size body care product which hasn't happened as much recently.
The retail value of this box is about $72.43, though that's if you count the $39.95 FabKids code, which you wouldn't if you don't use it or if you are already a member since it's for first time customers. The value of Citrus Lane's boxes are always more compared to the price you pay for the items and this box was particularly good. Without the FabKids code, the value of the box is $32.48, which is more than $10 over what I paid for it since I subscribe for six months at a time and get these boxes monthly for $21 rather than the $25 if you pay monthly.

And here is what came in baby brother's newborn box:

  • Barefoot Books "Cleo's Alphabet" board book ($6.99): I love getting books in my subscription boxes for the boys. I would be happy to get a book every month. We really love Barefoot Books and actually Owen totally loves this book. He knows his alphabet now and we've been working on teaching him about the different sounds that the letters make and this book features a different item that begins with the letter on each page so it goes right along with what we've been teaching him. And it's just a really cute book in general. I kind-of want to order the Cleo's Colors book to go with it and just might since a 20 percent off code was included on my box insert.
  • Rich Frog Little Stacker ($12.95): Stackers are such a common baby toy, but because this one is animal shaped and soft fabric as opposed to plastic or wood, it's completely different from all the other ones we already have. We got the lion, which is super cute, but they also have it in a frog, rabbit, monkey, and maybe one other version. The ring piece fits around the bottom piece and the top one velcros on.
  • Organic Socks from iPlay ($5.50): These little socks are so cute and soft. And you can never have too many pairs of baby socks. Older infants received the same box with the exception of getting a sippy cup holder instead of the socks. I prefer the socks.
  • CleanWell Hand Sanitizing Wipes ($5.50): We got these in Owen's box too and I'm happy to have two canisters.
  • Weleda Diaper Cream Samples and Fab Kids offer: I am a little bummed about receiving samples of this instead of a tube because I never seem to actually use samples. They just get tossed into a basket in the linen closet and hang out there forever. And the FabKids offer is kind-of weird since the smallest size they offer is size 2 so the baby couldn't wear it for a long time. Also, I don't think it would allow you to redeem two vouchers under the same name and e-mail address anyway.
The retail value of this box is about $30.94. I didn't count the samples because I have no idea their value or the FabKids offer because I can't redeem two of them and because the smallest size they offer is size 2 and the baby won't be that size for years.

If you would like to try Citrus Lane, you can use the code TAKEHALF to receive half off your first month in a month-by-month subscription (making your first month $12.50). Multi-month subscriptions are already discounted and there are currently no coupon codes for a discount on those. Though, if you sign up using a referral link, you will receive a $10 credit in your account. You can find my referral HERE if you wish to use it. I really love Citrus Lane and highly recommend it. I already can't wait for next month!

10 Storks Review

I recently heard about a brand new subscription box called 10 Storks. 10 Storks is a monthly care package for pregnant women. You receive one box each month of your pregnancy and an extra 10th box for your newborn is sent to you for free at the end of your subscription regardless of when you began your subscription. Boxes are $40 a month and if you don't find out you are pregnant until the second or third month, you can either start then, or request and pay to receive the first couple boxes all at once.
10 Storks just launched this month and will ship out their first boxes on August 15. Because I am so close to the end of my pregnancy, I contacted the company to tell them I would love to try their product, but that I was afraid I wouldn't receive it in time since Owen came two weeks early. The owner of the company, Shoua Kue, offered to send me the ninth box for free before their launch so I would be certain to get it before baby. What great customer service!
10 Storks boxes come beautifully packaged in a silver box with their signature yellow and purple tissue paper and ribbons. The box isn't huge, but it did weigh a decent amount. And it was shipped super quickly all the way from California.

I was pleased that the box came with a personalized card from Shoua and the 10 Storks team as well as a description of the items in my box.

The letter with a description of my items was personalized with my name as well as a sweet message about the end of my pregnancy. I am seriously bummed that I am so close to finishing my pregnancy and am too late to check out their earlier boxes. I feel like this would be the best gift for a pregnant woman to feel pampered a little each month of her pregnancy.

The personalized note card was also really special. I have never had a subscription box do this before. I'm sure it adds some time to packing, but I think the extra care that goes into these packages will be really appreciated by pregnant mommas in need of some pampering and attention.

It was hard to rip into that beautifully layered paper to see what was inside.

Chocolate is always a sign of a good box.

And here's what came in my box:

  • Mambino Mommy & Baby Bonding Kit (Retail $44.00): This 6-piece organic kit offers great products that allow you to bond with your baby as soon as he or she arrives. This gift set includes all the skin care essentials to cleanse, nourish and protect a newborn's delicate skin from day one, and is a must have for every baby. The set includes: Calendula nursing balm, mild baby wash and shampoo, tippy toes calming baby oil, happy baby soothing stick, mommy and baby calming aromatherapy oil, and an organic cotton and hemp wipe. This is such a great pack of products and I fully intend to bring it along to the hospital with my so that I can use them right away. I'm really picky about what I put on my baby's skin so I really appreciate such high quality, organic skin care products. And as far as the box being worth the price, this kit alone covers the price of the entire box.

  • Lindt Chocolate Bar and Orchard Valley Harvest Cashews and Almonds:  This gourmet chocolate bar looks so tasty. The insert says the chocolate bar is a special treat for the end of the pregnancy and a special indulgence for a pregnant momma. And the pouches of nuts also look tasty. Almonds and cashews are both good for health and include important nutrients. They will also make a great protein-packed snack for after I deliver the baby so I plan to toss them in my hospital bag for times when I'm famished after labor, but don't feel like ordering from the hospital.  ($3.99 for chocolate; $1.82 for almonds; $1.55 for cashews)

  • Samples of Earth Mama Angel Baby Mama Bottom Balm, Angel Baby Bottom Balm, and Natural Nipple Butter: These samples are included to introduce moms-to-be to a brand of skin care products that has several creams and lotions specifically for use after the arrival of your baby. Mama Bottom Balm helps soothe sore mama bottoms after a vaginal delivery, Natural Nipple Butter eases the discomfort of breastfeeding, and Angel Baby Bottom Balm protects brand new baby bottoms.
I really enjoyed the ninth box of the 10 Storks series. I thought they did a great job of providing me with items that I can use after the baby is born and some yummy treats too. I expected more items for use in labor, but because women have such different needs based on whether they have a vaginal delivery or C-section, it would be hard to personalize a box with items dependent on that. Getting a mama ready to bond with her baby is something that all soon-to-be mothers can appreciate though!
For more information about what is included in each month of the boxes, check out this list:
~ Month 1: This box focuses on preparing you for pregnancy. It includes prenatal vitamins, a mom's planner, an informational book on what food to eat during pregnancy, and other goodies.
~ Month 2: As your baby is growing, so are your symptoms of pregnancy! This box is designed to alleviate any unpleasant symptoms such as nausea and heartburn while allowing you to maintain a healthy body.

If you are interested in signing up for 10 Storks or gifting a subscription to the deserving pregnant woman in your life, click HERE. You can receive $10 off your first box by using the promo code therumelys. That code is good through August 15.

Blue Apron Review

As most people who follow my blog or know me in real life know, I love cooking. I've always enjoyed cooking and trying new recipes and I make homemade meals for my family at least six nights a week typically. But as I've gotten more pregnant (you know, bigger, obviously I can't get more pregnant), finding the time to plan meals, grocery shop, and then stand in the kitchen for near to an hour cooking has started to wear on me. So when I recently had the opportunity to try and review the ready-to-prepare gourmet meal subscription Blue Apron, I was over the moon! You can ask Tim. I doubt I have ever been this excited to try a subscription box before.
Blue Apron describes itself as a "new concept in grocery delivery, built around incredible cooking experiences. We offer a once-a-week subscription service where we deliver all the fresh ingredients you need to make three meals, in exactly the right proportions. We've designed our service to teach you fun new recipes, save prep time and also reduce unnecessary waste. By letting us shop for you, we can bring you fresher and higher-quality food than you can get on your own in the supermarket, and for better prices!"
The name Blue Apron comes from the age-old French tradition of young chefs wearing blue aprons while they master the art of cooking. In America, master chefs such as Julia Child and Thomas Keller have adopted the blue apron to symbolize the importance of lifelong learning. The company is named Blue Apron to remind that amateur and expert chefs alike can always learn something new.
To subscribe, you choose the type of plan you want (meat and seafood or vegetarian) and the number of people you want to feed. Your package of ingredients and recipes will be delivered for free on the same day every week (we received the two-person box and had enough for both of us and our two-year-old Owen). You can cancel any time before the weekly cut-off , which is typically 6-7 days before your next delivery. You don't get to chose your recipes each week, but each one is designed to be healthy (between 500 and 700 calories a serving) and delicious. And preparation and cooking time should take less than 35 minutes. The price of the subscription is $9.99 per person, per meal. Our box was worth $59.94.
My favorite thing about this subscription was the quality and variety of the meals. I get bored making the same recipes over and over and I was really pleased that I received three recipes that I've never tried before, each containing a different meat and other ingredients. There was hardly any overlap in ingredients and each meal was completely unique and delicious in its own way. Obviously taste is most important in a subscription like this (otherwise why would you buy it?), but the convenience is another really great benefit of this subscription. I didn't have to spend any time scouring the Internet for new recipes, making a grocery list, or driving all the way to town to grocery shop with a toddler. And they pack practically everything you need for the recipes. The only ingredients they assume you have on hand are salt, pepper, and olive oil.
My box arrived last Saturday afternoon and I quickly had Tim bring it in so that I could open it. The box was rather large and super heavy. Typical deliveries are made Thursday through Sunday, though additional delivery windows like Monday and Tuesday and evening deliveries are available in some areas. Delivery is included in the price of your subscription.
The Blue Apron meals come packaged in a huge cardboard box protected and cooled by insulated packing materials and frozen gel ice packs. Blue Apron uses special biodegradable insulated liners that are more eco-friendly than the foam that many other perishable products are shipped with. I think even in the summer heat, this packaging would keep the food nice and cool until you come home from work and bring it in and refrigerate it. Though in ordering, you can choose a delivery time that works best for you, including evening deliveries in some areas. Blue Apron is working on being able to delivery nationwide, but currently is available in CT, DC, DE, IL, IN, KY, MA, ME, MD, NH, NJ, NY, OH, PA, RI, TN, VA, VT, and WV. They also deliver to some parts of the following states: AL, AR, GA, IA, MI, MO, MS, NC, SC, and WI.
Inside the box was also a letter from Blue Apron, listing the recipes for the week and some helpful tips for preparation. The company was also offering a giveaway for its subscribers to win cooking supplies.
The three recipes for the week are presented on full page thick colorful cards. The front of each page includes a photo and description of the meal and a list and photo of the ingredients. I used this to quickly sort through the food and group items needed for each recipe to store in the fridge together. This made it easier for me once I was ready to cook, to just quickly grab the ingredients for that recipe.
The backs of the recipe cards featured the instructions for cooking the meal with step-by-step photos. I really liked how they detailed how to prep each of the items at the beginning, which helped me cut down on cooking time and stay organized while cooking. The recipes were very easy to follow.
All of the ingredients were layered carefully in the box to prevent anything from being squashed. Each ingredient was in a labeled plastic pouch, bottle, or bag. With the exception of one item (I'll discuss that later), everything was super fresh and lovely. I was especially pleased with the appearance of the meat.
It was so much fun pulling out each of the ingredients and sorting them with which recipe they belonged to.

Like I mentioned earlier, Blue Apron assumes you have basically nothing in your kitchen. A bag labeled knick-knacks had all the condiments and spices you need for the recipes.

The knick-knacks in my bag included soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, Korean chili paste, sesame seeds, garlic, and even butter, sugar and mayonnaise. I couldn't believe they didn't just assume you had sugar in your house, but was impressed that they included even common ingredients like these just in case.

I laid out all the ingredients on my kitchen counter and then sorted them based on what was needed for each recipe. Then I stored them in the fridge. Afterwards, came the hard choice of deciding which recipe to make first. The three recipes that were featured in my box (from the week of July 22) were: Beef Bibimbap, Salmon Burgers and Corn on the Cob with Basil Butter, and Chicken Paillards topped with Endive, Radishes, and Haricots Verts. I was very pleased with the variety in the meals and they all looked super delicious.
Each of the recipes included foods that we don't normally eat and I was surprised at how adventurous this box had us eating. Particularly my husband and my toddler son. If you are super picky, a box like this would probably not be the best idea (particularly if you don't like seafood), but I was really pleased at how delicious every recipe was even when using ingredients I don't typically enjoy, for instance mushrooms.
To better be able to review each meal, I made them exactly as the recipe instructed (except in the case of the recipe where one of my ingredients was bad), though you could always adjust things based on personal preferences.

Here is my review of each of the recipes we made:
1. Beef Bibimbap: Bibimbap is a popular Korean dish whose name arose from the Korean word for "mixed rice." This delicious meal traditionally consists of white rice topped with sauteed vegetables, marinated meat, hot chili, sesame oil, and other condiments. These ingredients are then all mixed thoroughly along with gochujang, a sweet-spicy soybean-based chili paste. Sometimes bibimbap comes in a sizzling hot stone bowl called a dolsot.
I began by getting all my ingredients together. I love how everything is labeled. Well, except the carrot. But if you can't recognize a carrot, then you've got bigger problems. The beef was super fresh and sliced beautifully to be really tender. I used their tip to slice the meat after sticking it in the freezer for a few minutes so that it was really cold and it helped me get really nice thin slices. The only additional item I needed to make the meal was olive oil.

I prepped all my ingredients by doing all the chopping and slicing and marinating first while waiting for the water for the rice to boil. This recipe exposed us to many ingredients that we don't typically use or have never eaten before, including shitake mushrooms, bok choy, and bean sprouts. This meal probably took me the longest to make because of all the chopping, but even with pausing to take photos and all that, it took me well under an hour to make.

The finished product was so delicious and flavorful. I was surprised to like every part of it, including the mushrooms, which I am generally not a fan of. The gochuchang was a little too spicy for Owen, but since it was mainly on the bok choy, I just let him eat everything else. And eat everything else, he did! Who has a toddler that eats bean sprouts and mushrooms? I do!

This was probably both mine and Tim's favorite recipe from the week. It was so different from what I normally make and really delicious. I typically avoid Asian recipes because they include so many specialized ingredients that I don't normally have on hand (rice vinegar, sesame oil, etc.) so this was really fun to be able to make. And I would definitely make it again!

2. Salmon Burgers and Corn on the Cob with Basil Butter: This easy recipe for succulent salmon burgers requires no breadcrumbs or binders for the mix. Using freshly chopped salmon and cooking the burgers slowly over low heat keeps them moist and juicy. To get the nice, round shape of the patties, we used a ring mold. You can experiment with shapes by using your hands, a cookie cutter, or a small dish or bowl.

I started once again by gathering all my ingredients together. Check out that salmon! It was so fresh and beautiful. And way better than what I normally buy at our local Kroger. The only ingredient that I needed in addition to what came in the box was olive oil and salt and pepper.

This recipe was the only one where I ran into a problem with the freshness of the ingredients. All of the ingredients were fresh and delicious, except the shallot for the salmon burgers. It was mushy and smelled bad. So I substituted a very little bit of onion for them in the recipe though onion typically has a stronger flavor so I didn't use much. I think they would have been extra delicious with the shallot.

I had no problems shaping the salmon patties or having them stay together. And they browned up beautifully, though I did turn the heat of my stove up to medium to cook them because they were cooking way too slow on low. They still turned out great though.

The salmon burgers were our second favorite meal from the week. They tasted so fresh and  the combination of flavors was so delicious and summery. It was so awesome to have seafood that didn't taste super fishy. I normally have problems finding good seafood in our area so this was a real treat. We will definitely try to make this recipe again sometime if I can find some good salmon at our grocery store. The corn was also delicious, since I don't really bother putting anything special on corn other than butter and salt and pepper. This was a perfect summer recipe.

I was super impressed with my son Owen. He ate up the part of my salmon burger that I shared with him and really seemed to enjoy it. He also ate some tomato on the side and some of my corn, which I cut off the cob for him.

3. Chicken Paillards topped with Endive, Radishes, & Haricots Verts: Belgian endive is a prize vegetable not just because of its smooth, crunchy leaves and unique tangy flavor, but also because it's one of the most difficult vegetables in the world to grow. The two-step process involves growing the roots in a field, then growing the leaves in a dark cellar. Like white asparagus that's also grown in the dark, endives maintain their pale color due to lack of sunlight.
This was another fresh and summery meal. We preferred the other two recipes, but this one was still very good. It was definitely the quickest recipe to prepare and took us less than 30 minutes to make. Again, the only additional ingredients we needed were olive oil and salt and pepper.

I loved the color of this dish, and while I probably won't win any awards for plating, I thought it looked really appetizing. I was also surprised at how delicious the chicken was considering it was just seasoned with salt and pepper. The dressing for the vegetables was also very simple, but really brought out the flavors of the individual ingredients.

Again, Owen happily ate most of this dish. He wasn't a big fan of the radishes, which are a bit spicy, but he did eat most of everything else.

Overall, I was so very pleased with Blue Apron. The convenience of such a service is so very fantastic and I think it would be especially perfect for someone who works a lot or for a new mother who doesn't have the time or energy to leave the house with a toddler and a newborn, but would still love to prepare healthy meals at home for her family. (Sound like anyone you know?) Or it would just be fun for anyone who loves cooking and trying new recipes. Particularly if they are an adventurous eater. I loved trying the new recipes (and new foods) and being able to skip going to the grocery store and save time by not having to plan what we ate for the weekend was so great.
The only negative I can see to ordering from this company would be if you are incredibly picky about what foods you like or if you have any food allergies. At the moment, they don't offer any plans that take allergies into account or specific food preferences like for people who don't eat seafood, but like other meats and don't want the vegetarian option. They do plan to expand their options in the future though. The price is also a little high, but considering you are paying for convenience and the fact that shipping is included in getting that huge, heavy box to you, it really isn't a bad deal at all.
If you are interested in trying any of the above recipes, Blue Apron has them listed on their website. This is another great feature of Blue Apron. Here is a link to the page with their recipes. And if you want to sign up for Blue Apron and get 30 percent off your first order, you can click HERE. That would make the box that I received just $41.96!

This box was provided to me by Blue Apron free of charge for the purpose of this review. No other compensation was received. All thoughts, opinions and photos in this post are my own and are 100 percent honest.

Healthy Surprise review and giveaway

Healthy Surprise is probably the best subscription box for food that I've ever received. It comes packed with snacks and has such a large variety. Tim, Owen and I have been snacking on our box for almost a week now and we still haven't eaten it all. Usually any food box that I've tried lasts about a day and then I'm hungry for an entire month waiting for the next one. And this is the smallest box that Healthy Surprise offers! I can't imagine how long the larger box would last us! How awesome is that?!
Once you sign up, Healthy Surprise will send you a monthly specially curated box of snacks that are certified natural, vegan, gluten-free, corn free and soy free. The company also avoids snacks with artificial sweeteners, flavors, and colors, along with those that contain meat, dairy, shellfish, honey, high fructose corn syrup, partially hydrogenated oils, and other MSG. All snacks are made in America.
Types of snacks include fruits, nuts, trail mixes, bars, crackers, chocolates, kale and veggie chips, drink products, sweets, and other healthy treats. The variety is incredible!
Healthy Surprise offers three different sized boxes:
  • Starter Box ($33 a month): Provides 1-2 people with at least 11 full size products that make up between 16-20 servings.
  • Healthy Box ($66 a month): Provides 1-4 people with at least 16 full size snack products that make up between 32 and 40 servings.
  • Large Box ($99 a month): You will receive both the Starter Box and the Healthy Box which will provide 2-6 people with at least 27 full size products that make up 48 to 60 servings.
When you sign up on a business day before 2 p.m. EST, your box will ship that same day. My shipping was super fast and I received my box in just a few days all the way from California (Delivery typically takes 1-3 business days). For all the months following, you will be charged on the 7th of the month and your box will ship within three days.
I was recently lucky enough to have Healthy Surprise agree to send me a free box to review as well as allow me to host a giveaway on my blog. My box arrived super quick and I was really happy with it. It's a good-sized box and it comes packed to the brim with a variety of snacks. I also liked that they utilized all of the box surfaces to provide information and included an insert! I love box inserts!
The box packaging is very attractive. I like their theme of the green and yellow because it looks fresh and clean and reminds me of ripe vegetables like spinach and corn. The packaging is very attractive and is one of the reasons why Healthy Surprise would make a great gift as well.
The insert didn't list the products included in the box, but it did have an informative article about different types of essential nutrients, a recipe for a smoothie, and a write up about one of the companies featured in the box this month.
After peeling back the bright yellow and green tissue paper, I finally got a look at all the snacks inside. I received a really great variety of fruits, veggies, nuts, bars, sweets, and more. In total there were 11 different products in the box. And only one of the products was one that I have seen in my local grocery store. These are mostly unusual and unique brands and definitely a great way to learn about new snacks and companies.
Here's what came inside my box:

  • Plum Kids Organic Mash-ups in Berry flavor ($1.00): With a two-year-old, we are no strangers to the Plum Organics brand. And to tell you the truth, even after getting this one in my box, I still have never tasted one myself. Owen saw the top of this peeking out of the box while eating lunch one day and immediately started asking for the "Squeeze-y squeeze." It lasted all of 2.5 seconds. But don't worry, with ten other snacks in my box, I didn't feel deprived by having to share.
  • Gopal's Health Foods Brownie ($2.69): If you are expecting this to taste just like a regular brownie, then you are going to be disappointed. But in and of itself it is a pretty yummy snack bar made primarily of walnuts and dates. Though I'm not sure it's worth the 260 calorie splurge if you are truly trying to eat healthy. But since it's made of all healthy ingredients, I suppose you can justify it that way. I did. :)
  • Gorge Delights Just Fruit Bar in Pear Strawberry flavor ($1.50): I really liked this bar. It was an interesting texture, but it was definitely great to eat a bar that was made solely of fruit with no added ingredients. Very yummy.
  • Betty Lou's Just Great Stuff 10 Bar in Cacao Acai flavor ($1.97): I have had a different flavor of this type of bar before that I liked, but I was not a big fan of this particular flavor. The texture kind of bothered me because it felt like there were coffee grounds mixed into it (I think that was a combination of the cacao nibs and the chopped cashews).
  • Hail Merry Macaroons in Strawberry flavor ($5.00): These were really yummy. I really want to try some of their other flavors like caramel sea salt and chocolate. They were a tasty snack for someone who loves coconut. And because they are made with extra virgin coconut oil, they practically melt in your mouth when you eat them.
  • Nibnaks in Crancherrytart flavor ($2.00): I loved the simplicity of this snack. It was just almonds, dried cherries, and dried cranberries. And all the other flavors sold by this company sound just as delicious. These are definitely a snack that I would purchase again after discovering them in this box.
  • Just Tomatoes Etc! Dried Tomatoes ($2.35): Tim and I don't really like the flavor of tomatoes (too fruity), but we were both game to try these. We didn't really like them, but my mom happily took them home with her after her visit this past weekend.
  • Lydia's Organics Rawkin' Spicy Beet Chips ($5.99): These organic beet chips were surprisingly spicier than I expected and kind-of addicting in a weird way. They weren't my favorite item in the box, but they aren't bad at all if you don't mind some heat. And they are definitely a unique item that I would have never heard of otherwise.
  • Beanitos White Bean and Sea Salt Restaurant Style Chips ($2.66): This was one of my favorite items in the box. They were really tasty and I would love to try their other flavors as well. I didn't even get to try them with salsa because my mom and I ate them up so quickly. She was happy to be visiting while I was trying everything in the box and enjoyed these as well. Both of us would pick these up at the grocery store if we saw them.
  • Caveman Foods Caveman Nuts ($2.29): My husband was probably the most interested in this snack because he's on a super health kick lately and has been researching all these diet plans and stuff like that. I was really pleased with this product. There are no extra flavorings or anything, just a plain and simple variety of nuts. And they're delicious! You know when you eat something without any added anything and you realize that the flavor of the food is so much better when it's not messed with? That's what this was like. And I feel like I need to go climb a mountain or do something really active now.
  • The Daily Crave Veggie Chips ($1.32):  I have never eaten veggie chips before and wasn't sure what to expect. These tasted just like regular chips only less salty and greasy. I was definitely impressed. Owen and Tim also enjoyed them. And for what it's worth, the packaging is really cute too.
