According to my pregnancy app, the baby is approximately the size of an apple at about four inches long and weighing about 2.5 ounces. He or she is busy moving amniotic fluid through the nose and upper respiratory tract, which helps the primitive aid sacs in the lungs begin to develop. The baby's legs are growing longer than his or her arms now, and he or she can move all those tiny joints and limbs. Although the baby's eyelids are still fused shut, he or she can sense light. His or her taste buds are forming.
This past week was a hard one because while I was visiting my family in Georgia during Tim's business trip, we all came down with a really contagious stomach bug and were sick for days. And when Tim came back home, he got it too. And let me just say that being pregnant and sick at the same time is no joke. Trying to stay hydrated was hard and finding the energy to chase around a toddler and attempt to disinfect the house before Tim returned wore me out as well. Strangely enough though, I thought that I would lose weight because I wasn't eating much of anything, but my bump chose to finally make its appearance this week. It was weird because I didn't look pregnant and then suddenly I did. I haven't gained any weight yet, but my pants are starting to get really tight. I am hoping I can go get a belly band or something to help my wear my regular pants for longer before switching to maternity pants.
Otherwise I am starting to actually feel pregnant now. I can feel my uterus stretching and growing and now that I have a bump, it's starting to feel more real. I am happy to be in my second trimester because I will have more energy once I'm completely over the stomach bug and I am feeling more like myself. And my appetite is starting to come back after being sick.
We have an appointment for an elective ultrasound on March 30 to find out whether the baby is a boy or girl. We are really excited to find out so we can begin narrowing down name choices and figure out the nursery situation.
